Persian calligraphy artwork by Somayeh Gholami

Description: Silent Passage is a contemporary painting created entirely through Kufic calligraphy. Selected letters are arranged and transformed to form the structure of a bridge and its reflection in the river beneath it. The bridge emerges not through conventional drawing, but through the geometry, rhythm, and visual possibilities of Kufic letters.

The work uses different densities and tonal variations of black acrylic ink to create the bridge, its reflection, and the surrounding space. Some letters are deliberately deformed and adapted to achieve the desired forms, shifting between readable script and abstract visual elements. In Silent Passage, calligraphy becomes an image: the letters move beyond language to create a landscape of connection, passage, and silence.
