Persian calligraphy artwork by Somayeh Gholami

Description: The Ivy’s Journey from House to House is a calligraphy painting inspired by the poetry of the Iranian poet Sohrab Sepehri. In this work, Kufic letterforms are transformed into the geometric patterns of Lisbon’s traditional calçada portuguesa, creating a stone-paved road that leads toward an architectural structure.

The building is imagined through the visual language of azulejos, with letters becoming decorative elements within the tiled surface. By transforming Kufic letters into pavement, architecture, and ornament, the work brings together calligraphy and the visual identity of Lisbon.

The journey suggested by the title becomes a movement through streets and houses, connecting different spaces and memories. Letters become stones and tiles, while the written form becomes part of the architecture of the city.
