Persian calligraphy artwork by Somayeh Gholami

Description: What Sweet Scent of Grass Comes from Gulestaneh! is a Kufic calligraphy painting inspired by the poetry of the Iranian poet Sohrab Sepehri. In this work, the geometric forms of Kufic letters are deformed and transformed into the delicate shapes of grass.

The calligraphic forms extend across the surface like blades of grass, while their reflection creates a shadow-like image in the water below. The deformation of the letters allows writing to move beyond language and become part of a natural landscape.

The work brings together calligraphy, nature, and reflection, creating a quiet visual space where the written word becomes grass and the rhythm of letters evokes the movement and fragility of the natural world.
