In December 2019, Somayeh Gholami led a specialized workshop at Casa da Esquina in Coimbra, Portugal, focused on the technique of applying gold leaf on canvas in combination with Persian calligraphy. Participants were introduced to the process of working with gold leaf, learning how to prepare surfaces, handle delicate materials, and incorporate this luminous element into their artistic practice.
The workshop also explored the integration of Persian calligraphy, guiding participants to create their own compositions using traditional techniques alongside contemporary methods. By combining gold leaf with the elegance of Persian script, the workshop offered a unique opportunity to experiment with texture, light, and cultural expression.
This experience highlighted the fusion of fine art techniques and Persian calligraphic tradition, encouraging participants to develop their own visual language through material exploration and artistic innovation.
