Kufic script workshop

In July 2022, Somayeh Gholami conducted a workshop in Tehran, Iran, introducing participants to the Kufic script, one of the earliest and most influential forms of Islamic calligraphy. Characterized by its strong geometric structure and angular lines, Kufic has historically been used in Quranic manuscripts and architectural decoration, reflecting both artistic precision and cultural heritage .

During the workshop, participants explored the fundamental principles of Kufic calligraphy, learning how to construct letters through balance, proportion, and spatial composition. The sessions encouraged a creative approach, allowing participants to experiment with the transformation of traditional letterforms into contemporary visual designs.

This workshop created a space for dialogue between tradition and modern artistic practice, highlighting the continued relevance of Kufic script in contemporary art, design, and calligraphy.
