Persian calligraphy artwork by Somayeh Gholami

Description: Letting Life Take Its Course is a contemporary Kufic calligraphy painting created through the repetition of a single letter. The letter initially follows a regular and consistent pattern, establishing a sense of rhythm, order, and continuity across the composition.

At a certain point, the pattern begins to change. The repeated letter can no longer continue in the same way and gradually stops following its previous structure. This moment of interruption represents a shift in the course of life: a point at which a person may no longer be able to control or maintain the path they have followed and instead accepts the conditions and circumstances around them.

Through the deformation and repetition of the Kufic letter, the work transforms traditional calligraphic forms into an abstract visual language. The letter becomes more than a unit of writing; it becomes a symbol of movement, interruption, adaptation, and acceptance.

The work reflects an aspect of contemporary Persian calligraphy in which Arabic and Persian letterforms are explored for their visual and expressive qualities rather than solely for their textual meaning.
