Description: When I Fell in Love, That Moment Was the Whole is a contemporary Kufic calligraphy work created on craft paper. The entire surface is filled with a poem that I deeply love, written repeatedly and continuously in black Kufic calligraphy.
Although the complete poem is present in the work, it cannot be easily read by the viewer. The transformation of the text into dense Kufic forms shifts the poem from a readable literary text into a visual and emotional experience. The meaning of the words becomes less important than the presence, rhythm, density, and movement of the written forms.
Small touches of colour appear among the black letters, creating moments of interruption and contrast within the dense field of writing. These coloured points can be understood as traces of emotion emerging from the written language.
The title, When I Fell in Love, That Moment Was the Whole, reflects the relationship between language and memory. A poem can be completely present without being literally readable; its emotional meaning can remain through its rhythm, visual presence, and the act of writing it.
The work explores Persian poetry, Kufic calligraphy, illegible writing, abstraction, memory, and emotion, transforming a beloved poem from a text to be read into an image to be experienced.
