The exhibition “Aproximações Poéticas”, held in May 2023 at the Museu da Fundação Dionísio Pinheiro e Alice Cardoso Pinheiro in Águeda, Portugal, brings together a diverse group of artists who engage in a visual dialogue with two remarkable figures of Portuguese literature. Rather than presenting literal portraits or depictions of the poets’ daily lives, the exhibition proposes a reinterpretation of their legacy through painting, sculpture, photography, graphic art, and illustration.
These two outstanding Portuguese figures became notable not only for their contributions to poetry and prose, but also for the unique ways in which they shaped their everyday lives, distancing themselves from the normative conventions of their time. Their singular approach continues to inspire contemporary artistic practices and encourages a deeper reflection on individuality and creative freedom.
Through this exhibition, visitors are invited to reflect on what it means to be autonomous individuals in today’s world—aware of our shared responsibility in building a more supportive and fraternal society, while never denying our own distinct identity. “Aproximações Poéticas” highlights the ongoing relevance of literature as a source of inspiration for visual art, fostering a meaningful connection between cultural heritage and contemporary expression.
